The Academy of St. Joseph, whose history dates back 153 years, lacks the students and money to make running it financially feasible, Sisters of St. Joseph of Brentwood president Sister Jean Amore said yesterday. The school will shut down in June"

Oh god, I am so heartbroken over this. I loved my school so much. I can't believe what's happened to it over the last 15 years, and now this. I'm so upset. I just hope they find some way of preserving the buildings and grounds. God, I hope they don't tear it down and build condos or something. And what's going to happen to the sisters at Maria Regina, the nurshing home? I can't even imagine. I am devastated by this news.

While it's nice to see McCain defend Obama from what Glenn Greenwald calls his 'traveling lynch mob,' it's important to understand that it was McCain himself (and, of course, Sarah Palin) who have been working overtime for the past 10 days or so painting Obama as a Un-American Terrorist Foreigner who they should be fearful of.
Now that McCain has debunked his own campaign's last line of attack, where does he go from here? Perhaps he can start trying to convince a majority of Americans that his ideas are superior to Obama's? I won't hold my breath."

"Palin's new rhetorical strategy signifies an alarming new development in the 2008 Presidential election, and one that has been not only been documented by such high profile newspapers as the Washington Post, but confirmed by the McCain campaign itself.
'It's a dangerous road, but we have no choice,' a top McCain strategist recently admitted to the Daily News. 'If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we're going to lose.' (link)
The 'dangerous road,' however, is not just a generic attack on Sen. Obama's trustworthiness or honesty. Rather, the McCain campaign has chosen to stand before campaign rallies and accuse Sen. Obama of hiding sympathies with domestic terrorists--to accuse their opponent, essentially, of being a terrorist.
With the McCain campaign now using the Palin stump speech to accuse Sen. Obama of hiding a terrorist agenda, the McCain campaign has staked its future on rhetoric that skirts the boundary between character assassination and incitements of actual violence against their opponent.
